How to record a podcast

Good podcast audio comes down to a few basics. Here is how to record it.

1. Get a decent microphone. A USB or XLR mic beats a laptop mic enormously.
2. Treat the room. Record in a soft, quiet space to cut echo.
3. Use recording software. Audacity is a great free option for capturing and editing.
4. Record each voice on its own track. This makes editing and balancing far easier.
5. Edit out mistakes. Trim long pauses, stumbles and background noise.
6. Add an intro and outro, then export. Export as an MP3 ready to upload.
