Every review on JakeReviews is built the same way, so scores mean the same thing from one tool to the next. Here’s exactly how I do it.

1. Hands-on use, not spec sheets

I install and actually use each tool for real tasks — not just read the marketing page. Where a category has objective measures (speed, protection, uptime), I lean on those; where it’s about workflow, I judge from genuine use.

2. The four-part score

Every tool gets an overall score out of 5, built from four facets shown in each review’s Score breakdown:

• Ease of use — setup, interface, and how quickly a normal person gets productive.
• Features — depth and usefulness of what it does for real workflows.
• Performance — speed, reliability, and how well it holds up in practice.
• Value — what you get for the price, including renewals and hidden costs.

3. Pricing checked, not guessed

Software pricing changes constantly. I list approximate prices with the date I checked, and every review links to the vendor so you can confirm the current deal before buying.

4. Independence

Some links are affiliate links — if you buy through them I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you (see the Affiliate Disclosure). This never changes a score, a ranking, or a verdict. If a tool doesn’t deliver, I say so.

5. Kept up to date

Reviews and best-of guides show a “Last updated” date and are revised as tools change, prices move, or better options appear.
