How to migrate a WordPress site to a new host

Moving a WordPress site sounds risky, but a careful process keeps it safe.

1. Back up everything. Save both your files and your database.
2. Set up the site on the new host. Many hosts offer free migration — use it if available.
3. Copy files and import the database. Or let the migration plugin/tool do it.
4. Test on a temporary URL. Confirm the site works before going live.
5. Update your DNS. Point your domain to the new host and wait for it to propagate.
6. Verify everything. Check pages, forms and links once live.
