How to choose accounting software
The right accounting tool depends on your business size, whether you invoice clients, and how much you want to automate. What I look at:
Fit for your size. Sole traders and freelancers need simple invoicing; growing businesses need reporting, payroll and inventory. QuickBooks and Xero scale furthest; Wave and Zoho Books suit the smallest.
Invoicing and time tracking. If you bill clients, this is the core feature. FreshBooks is the easiest and most polished for service businesses.
Bank feeds and reconciliation. Automatic bank imports save hours. All the paid picks handle this well; Xero’s reconciliation is a highlight.
Users and collaboration. Check user limits — Xero includes unlimited users on every plan, which is rare.
Price. Weigh the monthly cost against features you will actually use. Wave is free for the basics; Zoho Books is the value pick.
